Chemistry groups in Bolivia
ISP Chemistry supports one research group in Bolivia:
- Chemical ecology at University of Saint Francis Xavier
Chemical ecology
In 2018, ISP started the support to the research group at Department of Chemistry at the University of Saint Francis Xavier (USFX) in Sucre.
The activities are coordinated by Dr Carlos Pinto. The research group builds on achievements by the previously supported network LANBIO.
Objectives
The overall objective of the group is to develop chemical ecology in Bolivia by addressing locally relevant problems with basic and applied approaches, and by training undergraduate and graduate researchers in analytical chemistry.
The research will focus on systems where there is regional and national need for new knowledge including chemicals from local plants to control Chagas disease vectors, chemistry of local crop plants in relation to their pollinators, and chemical responses of plants to signaling of interacting animals such as pollinators and herbivores.
