Description
LANDPATHS is a large research project that studies landscapes that are rich in biodiversity and offer various benefits to different stakeholders. The research addresses governance and management challenges across different landscapes, and uses integrative analyses that span administrative levels and policy areas. The overarching aim is to provide practical knowledge and recommendations for practitioners and public agencies working in multifunctional contexts.
LANDPATHS focuses on five landscape types:
- forest landscapes
- agriculture landscapes
- marine/coastal landscapes
- urban landscapes
- mountain landscapes
An important outcome will be a collection of good practices and innovative tools that facilitate collaboration across sectors, supporting the development of landscapes that serve multiple functions while preserving high biodiversity. This work aligns with national and international policies, particularly those related to biodiversity and climate change.
Insights and new knowledge for each landscape are being developed collaboratively with stakeholders and citizens. Activities include creating desirable visions (or 'imaginaries') for future landscapes and developing strategies to put these visions into practice. Another crucial aspect is addressing obstacles and leveraging synergies between different societal goals.
Funding for LANDPATHS is provided by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's environmental research grant, in collaboration with the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management.
