Depressive disorders
Project description
In psychiatry, a distinction is made between depressive symptoms and depressive disorders, the latter being when the depressive symptoms are so numerous and severe and cause such suffering that they meet the criteria for a diagnosis. The diagnoses we study are major depressive disorder, persistent depression and depression in bipolar disorder.
Our large longitudinal project concerns consequences of teenage depression, where young people from Uppsala who participated in an epidemiological survey of teenage depression are followed up at regular intervals.
