Develop your skills as a leader in academia
As a leader in academia, you are expected to lead others, but at the same time, you have to lead yourself. Your role as a leader can be multifaceted, inspiring and challenging. As a leader at Uppsala University with responsibility for the development of research and/or education, you are eligible for various forms of career support, courses and seminars.
These may concern leading research groups, creating creative work environments, contributing to functioning working groups and developing good relationships. Unless otherwise stated, this support is provided free of charge to you.

Disocver the Career Map
Are you a supervisor, mentor or academic leader? If so, you have the opportunity to book a one-on-one session where we will introduce you to the Career Map, a resource we have developed to guide you as you talk to others about their career decisions. You will receive a Career Map folder, including maps and question cards. Together we will discuss the mindset and skills involved in coaching, to prepare you to help others find their way. Just select Coaching in our booking system and write “Career Map” as a comment. Here is the link.
Courses to help you develop
- Att leda och utvecklas i akademin (in Swedish) – this training is for those in an academic leadership position who would like to develop their ability to lead. 6 days + 4 two-hour meeings in a peer tutorial group.
- Curious about leadership – for future research leaders, 4 days.
- Ekonomispelet för prefekter/motsv, chefer och ledare– an introductory course (in Swedish) on finance for heads of departments and others with managerial responsibilities and leadership positions at Uppsala University, 2 days.
- Ekonomispelet in English for researchers and research leaders – an introductory course (in English) on finance, 1 day.
- Förvaltningsrätt – a one-day course in Swedish on the fundamentals of administrative law for all employees at Uppsala University.
- Juridik i praktiken – a two-day introductory course in Swedish on legal matters relevant for heads of departments and others with managerial responsibilities and/or leadership positions at Uppsala University.
