Evictus

The EndoVascular Aortic Intervention in patients with Connective TissUe DiSease (EVICTUS) study is an international multicenter study evaluating endovascular aortic surgery in patients with connective tissue disease (CTD). So far, 19 major aortic centers in Europe, North America, Asia, and New Zeeland are participating in the project.

The first study in EVICTUS was published in JAMA Surgery in June 2023 and concluded that endovascular aortic interventions in patients with CTD had a high rate of early technical success, low perioperative mortality, and a midterm survival rate comparable with reports of open aortic surgery in patients with CTD and that endovascular treatment for patients with CTD may be included in guideline recommendations (Olsson KW, Mani K, Burdess A, et al. Outcomes After Endovascular Aortic Intervention in Patients With Connective Tissue Disease. JAMA Surg. 2023;158(8):832–839. doi:10.1001/jamasurg.2023.2128).

Currently the work with EVICTUS-vEDS, a sub study looking at endovascular aortic intervention in patients with vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (vEDS), is ongoing. The large EVICTUS-II follow up study will be initiated in the beginning of 2026 together with the EVICTUS-branch study of fenestrated and branched endovascular aortic repairs (F/BEVAR) in patients with CTD.
