Equal opportunities representative role
The role is based on delegated tasks from the head of department/department board.
The department’s equal opportunities representative are to:
- be appointed by the head of department, but should be nominated by colleagues and be employed indefinitely.
- provide support to the head of department and the department board in their equal opportunities management.
- lead the department’s equal opportunities group. However, it is permitted for several departments to have a joint equal opportunities group.
- be allocated appropriate resources to carry out the assignment.
- annually draw up proposals together with the head of department and equal opportunities group for a list of measures concerning equal opportunities management for the department board to decide upon.
- support the head of department in following up on the implementation of approved measures. Support the head of department in compiling the operational plan.
- review equal opportunities training together with the head of department.
- serve as a contact person and link between the local and central levels of equal opportunities management at the University.
- participate in training, information meetings, etc. organised by the University for equal opportunities representatives.
The equal opportunities group is to:
- be composed of both employees and students.
- have local HR available with allocated working hours for the equal opportunities group’s activities.
*The proposal is for the selected representative to be co-opted to the department board as equal opportunities issues must be highlighted in all parts of the board's work.
