Beskrivning:
Although the authorships of Astrid Lindgren and Tove Jansson have been the subject of extensive research, little attention has been paid in the literary field to their historical and ongoing transformation into corporate entities as an approach to manage their global legacies. These corporations’ licensing control over the images and texts of these authorships becomes a starting place to examine Lindgren and Jansson’s relatively parallel dissemination across different cultural institutions, from publishing, education, film, TV, museums, theme parks, philanthropic work, or merchandise. These literary licensing corporations are also creative actors that introduce, support, and co-produce new texts, initiatives, and media from these authorships for a 21st-century audience. As both Lindgren and Jansson have important places in their respective national cultures, this presentation questions to what degree the frameworks of corporatization continue to shape cultural identity and national belonging in the 21st-century.
Natalya Nielsen is a PhD Candidate at the University of California, Berkeley in Scandinavian and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. Her research centers around questions of literary sociology, transmedia studies, gender studies, corporate and branding histories, and national identity formation.
