Compulsory course in research ethics
For doctoral students within the faculty of Science and Technology a course on research ethics (of at least 2 credits) is mandatory for both licentiate and doctoral degree. The Faculty offers the two research ethics courses listed below, and these courses can constitute the compulsory course without special review.

Ethics of technology and science

Research ethics for science and technology
- Preliminary schedule for the first course instance during 2026 (on campus): 16-27 March 2026. Application is open until 16 February.
- Preliminary schedule for the second course instance during 2026 (on campus): 14-25 September 2026.
- Preliminary schedule for the third course instance during 2026 (online): 9-20 November 2024.
Transfer of credits for alternative ethics courses
In cases where a doctoral student wishes to transfer credit for a course other than those offered by the faculty, the request for transfer of credit is sent to the Doctoral Education Board, which decides on the transfer of credit for a compulsory course in research ethics. Information on courses that have been reviewed by the Doctoral Education Board is provided by the faculty office.
Selection
Doctoral students are selected based on admission year, time of doctoral defence, and if applicable time of licentiate seminar and motivation for participating in the course instance online.
