Compulsory course in research ethics
For doctoral students within the faculty of Science and Technology a course on research ethics (of at least credits) is mandatory for both licentiate and doctoral degree. The Faculty offers the two research ethics courses listed below, and these courses can constitute the compulsory course without special review.

Ethics of technology and science (part I)
- Preliminary schedule for the first course instance during 2024: 23 Jan and 31 Jan (lectures), 06 Feb and 14 Feb (seminars). Last day to apply is on 19 December 2023. Application is closed.
- Preliminary schedule for the second course instance during 2024 (Onsite): 19 Sept and 26 Sept (lectures), 03 Oct and 10 Oct (seminars). Last day to apply is on 26 August 2024. Application is closed.
- Preliminary schedule for the third course instance during 2024 (Online): 24 Sept and 01 Oct (lectures), 08 Oct and 15 Oct (seminars). Last day to apply is on 29 August 2024. Application is closed.
Selection: Doctoral students are selected based on admission year, time of doctoral defence, and if applicable time of licentiate seminar and motivation for participating in the course instance online.
Research ethics for science and technology
- Preliminary schedule for the first course instance during 2024: 13-23 May. The course is given online. Last day to apply is on 17 March 2024. Application is closed.
- Preliminary schedule for the second course instance during 2024: 27 May to 5 June. The course is given on campus. Last day to apply is on 31 March. Application is closed
- Preliminary schedule for the third course instance during 2024: Last day to apply is on 13 October. Application is closed.
Transfer of credits for alternative ethics courses
In cases where a doctoral student wishes to transfer credit for a course other than those offered by the faculty, the request for transfer of credit is sent to the Doctoral Education Board, which decides on the transfer of credit for a compulsory course in research ethics. Information on courses that have been reviewed by the Doctoral Education Board is provided by the faculty office.
