Do you want to help create a short open course that contributes to Sweden's green transition?

Through the Short Courses for Professionals initiative, the government wants to increase the skills of professionals in the field of green transition. The aim is to provide knowledge and skills that support the transition to a fossil-free energy system.

The causes of global warming are well known and documented. In this call, you can apply for funding to develop and deliver courses that go one step further. The open courses will provide participants with concrete knowledge and skills that can contribute to the green transition. Open courses do not require academic qualifications, but may have recommended knowledge requirements.

We are looking for open courses in the following 10 subject areas:

• Production (within companies)
• Construction sector
• Engineering and technology
• Energy
• Urban/social planning
• Materials/raw materials for the green transition
• Other areas relevant to the green transition
• Economy and marketing
• Health and well-being
• Environmental/climate communication, behavior and interaction

Funding for courses

You can apply for SEK 300,000 to develop and deliver a new short course, or apply for SEK 50,000 to update and deliver an existing short course. Provided that the Swedish Government continues its initiative on short courses during 2027 and beyond, funding for updates of previously developed short courses is planned to be allocated following discussions with the relevant departments.

The format and structure of the course are not predefined and may, for example, be a MOOC, a course with digital teaching, or pre-recorded digital learning materials combined with digital teaching. The initiative aims to explore and develop teaching formats that are suitable for the target group of working professionals.

About the course format

The courses must be fully developed and ready to start no later than 1 November 2027.

A short course for working professionals at Uppsala University is an open, non-credit-bearing course with a scope corresponding to a 3-credit course. The course format may vary but should be adapted to the needs of working professionals. Previous experience shows that working professionals appreciate flexibility, a low study pace, and digital learning materials, but live digital lectures have also been well received. This means that a short course can range from a MOOC to a course that includes both pre-recorded and/or digital learning materials and teaching, as well as scheduled digital teaching sessions.

Courses are encouraged to build on participants’ previous knowledge. Since the courses are open, they do not have formal entry requirements, but recommended prior knowledge may be specified. To attract the target group, the course objectives should clearly describe the knowledge and skills that participants will gain.

The courses must be offered as open courses with a start date no later than 1 November 2027.

Courses are welcome to be offered in Swedish, but this is not a requirement.

Approved courses will be marketed on Learning4Professionals.se and on Uppsala University’s website. As a teacher, you will develop the course in Studium as usual and will be offered pedagogical support during the course development process.
