The BUP German National Centre is located at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg, Germany. The centre is under leadership of Centre Director Walter Leal.
The Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg) is one of Germany’s leading universities of applied sciences, offering practice-oriented education across a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, business, life sciences, and social sciences. Known for its strong emphasis on research and innovation, HAW Hamburg collaborates extensively with industry and is committed to addressing key societal challenges, particularly in sustainability and digital transformation. The university has sustainability as one of its key themes and current trains over 100 PhD students.
The BUP National Centre is located at the FTZ-NK (Research and Transfer Centre for Sustainability and Climate Change Management), a key institution within HAW Hamburg, led by Prof. Dr. Walter Leal. The centre focuses on interdisciplinary research and knowledge transfer in the areas of sustainability and climate change. It plays a vital role in supporting sustainable development by offering research, education, and project management services aimed at reducing environmental impacts, promoting climate-resilient solutions across sectors, and fostering the sustainable development agenda.
The university also hosts one of three BUP Associated Secretariats.
