Consent, Mutuality & Sexual Violence Among Youth: A School-based Impact Evaluation

In Sweden, youth and LBTQ+ people are particularly vulnerable to sexual violence in Sweden. This study is an impact evaluation of the NGO, Uppsala Tjej- och Transjour school sessions to counteract and prevent sexual violence among youth, in Uppsala. The school sessions have been run in upper secondary schools in Uppsala by the NGO since 2015.

Description

In both Sweden and internationally, there has been a shift in violence prevention interventions focusing on men's violence against women, from information campaigns, to targeting only men as perpetrators, to more universal interventions. Despite this, young people and the LBTQ+ community are disproportionately overrepresented in their vulnerability to sexual offences and violence in Sweden. To date, few evaluations and fewer impact evaluations on these types of violence prevention interventions have been conducted.

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effect of Uppsala Tjej- och Transjour’s two-hour school-based intervention on young people's knowledge, attitudes and behaviours regarding consent, reciprocity and sexual violence. Secondary schools in Uppsala apply for the intervention from Uppsala Tjej- and Transjour who have a long-standing relationship with schools in the area, and have then been asked to participate in the study. Data collection takes place in autumn 2023 and spring 2024 and is aimed at young people aged 15-18 years. The aim of the study is to measure the impact of the school intervention on participants' knowledge, attitudes and behaviours regarding consent, reciprocity and sexual violence.

On this page we will publish information and reports about the work and the study.
