Uppsala Centre for Molecular Imaging and Theranostics (UMIT)

Uppsala Centre for Molecular Imaging and Theranostics (UMIT) is a research infrastructure designed to serve as a collaborative bridge between Uppsala University and Uppsala University Hospital, ensuring the efficient use of shared resources and expertise to advance PET imaging and theranostic innovation.

UMIT’s technical platform encompasses 4 PET/CT scanners, 1 PET/MRI scanner and 3 SPECT/CT scanners, supporting a wide range of clinical and translational imaging studies. The radiochemistry infrastructure includes 2 cyclotrons, GMP compliant hotlabs for clinical tracer production, hotlabs for novel tracer development, and an analytical chemistry laboratory for quality control and method development. A dedicated radiopharmacy enables the labeling of therapeutic pharmaceuticals, providing full capability for both diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceutical workflows. Imaging Equipment

PET/CT (GE Discovery MI-2)

UMIT has access to 4 PET/CT cameras located at the Nuclear Medicine department and PET centrum at Uppsala University Hospital.

PET/MR (GE SIGNA)

UMIT has access to 1 PET/MR camera located at the PET centrum at Uppsala University Hospital.

SPECT/CT

UMIT has access to 3 SPECT/CT cameras located at the Nuclear Medicine department at Uppsala University Hospital.

Chemistry department

Cyclotrons

UMIT currently has access to 2 cyclotrons located at the PET centrum at Uppsala University Hospital.

Hotlabs

UMIT has access to GMP-compliant hotlabs for clinical tracer production and hotlabs for novel tracer development, all located at the PET centrum at Uppsala University Hospital.

UMIT offers support across the entire workflow, from study coordination and tracer translation to therapeutic radiopharmaceutical production and advanced PET data analysis.

We encourage early contact during the planning phase, preferebly before submission of the ethical application, to fully benefit from our expertise and infrastructure.

Fees

Imaging and chemistry services are provided by Uppsala University Hospital and will therefore be charged according to their current price list.

Help with study administration and data analysis will be provided and charged by UMIT. A generic pricing list cannot be provided, as costs vary depending on the specific protocol and study design. The applicable cost model will also depend on whether the project is academic or industry-sponsored, as well as on the type of infrastructure and resources utilized.

Feasibility/project planning

The first step is to send an email to umit@uu.se with a short description of the proposed project. Ideally, this step will be performed before ethical application is submitted. We will then reach out to schedule a first meeting to discuss in what ways UMIT can assist in the project.

Project application

Once you have received guidance and UMIT has deemed the project feasible, it is time to submit an official project application. This is done digitally through Researchweb. Follow the instructions provided carefully, since incomplete or incorrect applications can be subjected to processing delays.

The application will be reviewed by a research committee that gathers the first Thursday each month and the submission deadline is Friday the week before the meeting. After the meeting you will receive an email with the decision and next steps.

Steering board

The UMIT steering board includes leading experts from multiple key fields, providing a strong foundation for informed decision making and high competence in all different aspects of the research involved.

Research committee
