Renovation
Reading rooms A, B and the Special Collections Reading Room will be renovated. This will be done in different stages, starting November 2024.
Information about the renovation and how it may affect you as a visitor
Reading Room A will be closed February 26 at 8.00-12.00 due to filming. Entrance to Reading Room B via Reading Room C
Accessibility
Accessible parking
A parking spot is available for visitors with handicap parking permission on the south-eastern side of Carolina Rediviva (towards Uppsala Castle).
Lifts
There is a lift to take you from the entrance on floor 4 (entrance floor) to floors 5, 6 and 9. To reach the third floor, take the lift in reading room B.
Toilets
Accessible toilets are available on floors 4 (entrance floor), 6 and 9.

Floor 3
The door down to the temporary Special Collections Reading Room is open during the Room's opening hours. There is a lift in the reading room B.
Floor 4 – entrance floor
There is no lift to floor 4½ in reading room C. The Riksdag material available on this floor can only be accessed by steps. Ask at the information desk for assistance in collecting the material you need.
Reading room A has some material in the apse that is two steps up from the rest of the reading room and some material is also in the galleries. Ask at the information desk for assistance in collecting the material you need.
Reading room B has two entrances with doors. Neither of the doors has a door opener but one of the doors is usually left wide open. There is some material in the galleries that is only accessible by steps. Ask at the information desk for assistance in collecting the material you need.
Floor 5
The microfilm room is directly accessible by lift.
Floor 6
The Periodicals Reading Room, TLS, on floor 6 is reached through two doors from the lift. The doors have door openers.
Floor 9
The open stacks can be reached using the lift.
Borrowing and returning books
Borrow and return
For loans, use the machine nearby the circulation desk (first room after the foyer). For returns, use the machine located to the left just past the circulation desk. You can also return books borrowed from our other libraries.
Your loans are renewed automatically where possible.
Books for pickup
Books that you have requested or queued for can be found in the middle of the room, past the circulation desk.
Exhibitions and Shop Carolina
Our permanent exhibition features the world-famous Silver Bible, as well as the earliest fairly accurate map of Scandinavia, the Carta Marina from 1539. We also hold temporary exhibitions on current themes.
Admission to the exhibition hall is free.

Reading Room A, Reading Room B and the Special Collections Reading Room
- No food or beverages.
Other parts of the library
- Beverages are allowed if you use a lid on the container.
- No food.
Café area
- Upper level: Food and beverages are allowed. There are also vending and coffee machines as well as microwaves.
- Entrance floor: Café Carolina offers lunch and fika. When Café Carolina is closed, you are welcome to use the area for studying.

Technical equipment and locally available e-resources
Public computers
As a student, researcher or employee at Uppsala University, you use your university account and password A to access the computers. Other visitors can get a temporary account at one of our information desks. You can see which of our libraries have information desks and when they are open on the page Opening hours and contact.
The database Svenska tidningar
In the microfilm room (floor 5) there is a computer with full access to the National Library's database Svenska tidningar. The computers are bookable weekdays 09:00-12:00, and are free to use for everyone when there is no booking (It is also possible to book a computer at the Karin Boye Library or at the Library for Economic Sciences).
The database Sveriges dödbok 8
Sveriges dödbok is a database containing information about deceased Swedes. The database is produced by the Swedish Genealogical Association and contains the name, place of birth, place of death, address, marital status and date of birth, death and change of marital status for 15.4 million deceased between 1830-2020.
Copy, scan and print
Everyone is welcome to use the University's printing system eduPrint.
Wireless network
Students and researchers use the Eduroam network. Other visitors are welcome to use the UU-guest network.
Support
All IT technical support is provided by the University's IT support.
Lockers and book cabinets
Lockers for storage during the day
Lockers are available in the café area on the entrance floor. You can choose your own code and store your valuables in the locker until the library closes for the day.
Book cabinets for storing books for a longer period
If you need to borrow and store reading materials at Carolina Rediviva for a longer period of time, you can apply for a book cabinet. We give priority to researchers and thesis writing students at Uppsala University.
