Accessibility

There are no lifts inside the library, but you can use the lifts outside the library. The staff can show you where the lifts are and unlock the doors on the right floor.

For loans, use the machine located by the entrance to the library. For returns, use the machine located to the right after entering the library. When the library is closed, you can use the return box outside. The box is emptied in the morning on the days that the library is open. You can also return books borrowed at our other libraries.

Your loans are renewed automatically where possible.

Books for pickup

Books that you have requested or queued for can be found on a shelf marked on the right side of the circulation desk (entrance level).

Interlibrary loans and articles

Interlibrary loan books and copies of articles can be picked up at the circulation desk during library opening hours.

Finding your way in the collections

Food and beverages

No food is allowed in the library.
Water and coffee are allowed if you have a top on your cup or bottle.
There is a café, lunch restaurant, and a pantry with microwave ovens in other parts of the building.

Reading studio

The Reading Studio at Karin Boye Library offers a customised study environment where students can

listen to digital text via speech synthesis and screen reader
connect their laptop to an external screen via USB-C
listen to and read talking books and e-text from Legimus (only for those with a Legimus account)
work undisturbed in a quiet environment.

For material not produced for Legimus, such as single chapters, there is a scanner that converts text to speech.

Opening hours and booking

The reading studio is available during Karin Boye Library's opening hours.

During the summer, it is not possible to book the room in advance.

Study spaces and study zones

The Karin Boye Library offers study spaces for individual work and group work.

The library is divided into study zones: Map of the study zones (pdf) pdf, 334 kB.

The 200 study places are spread over four floors.

There are two quiet reading rooms and the university library's reading studio on the upper floors.

On the ground floor, there is the Spektrum teaching room, which can be used when it is not booked for library teaching.

There are a couple of computers on each floor that you can log in to (8 in total).

There are no group rooms.

Spektrum – Flexible teaching room

Spektrum is a flexible teaching room in the Karin Boye Library.
The room has a computer with standard software. You can also connect a laptop to a TV screen.
The room can can accommodate about ten people.

Access to Spektrum

The room is available for library users during library hours except when it is booked for teaching or meetings. If you are a student, researcher or member of staff at Uppsala University, you can enter at the same times as you can enter the building using your campus card.

About the name Spektrum

Spektrum was named after the literary and cultural magazine of the same name that was published in Stockholm between 1931 and 1933 and for which Karin Boye was one of the initiators and editors.
