Wireless network – Wi-Fi
With your student account you will get access to Uppsala University’s network and eduroam. Eduroam (education roaming) is a worldwide service that provides access to the internet. You can use eduroam at other Swedish universities that have eduroam and other parts of the world where eduroam is accessible.
Connect to the wireless network Eduroam:
Create a password B
To access eduroam you must first create a password B. Note that this password is only used for eduroam.
- Go to the account management page, uu.se/konto.
- Select Joint Web Login. Log in with your user ID and password A.
- Create a password B.
Proceed to connect to eduroam:
Install eduroam – a quick guide
- Select eduroam among the wireless networks.
- Enter your user ID followed by @user.uu.se (example: abcd1290@user.uu.se).
- Enter your password B.
- Click “Connect”.

You can also install and connect your device to eduroam by following the guides:
Android
Step 1
Open Google Play Store.

Step 2
Search for geteduroam in the search field in Google Play Store. Click the application named "geteduroam". Select "Install".

Step 3
Write "Uppsala universitet" in the search window. Click "Uppsala universitet" when it appears under the search window.

Step 4
Enter your user ID followed by "@user.uu.se" and your password B and select "Log in".

Step 5
A dialog box will appear asking if you want to save this network. Select "Save".

Step 6
Wait a few seconds and you will be connected to eduroam automatically. Eduroam Wi-Fi is now configured. You can now close the application.
iOS
Step 1
Go to App Store.

Step 2
Search for "geteduroam" and click "Get".

Step 3
Select "Install".

Step 4
Enter "Uppsala University" in the search field. Select the name that appears under the search field.

Step 5
In the username field, enter your user ID followed by "@user.uu.se". In the password field, enter password B. Click "Log in".

Step 6
The app wants to add eduroam wi-fi network. Click "Allow".

Step 7
The app wants to connect to eduroam wi-fi network. Click "Connect".

Step 8
Wait a few seconds and you will be connected to eduroam automatically.

Step 9
Close the app.
Windows
Step 2
Click "Click here to download your eduroam installer".

Step 3
Enter "Uppsala University" in the search field. Select Uppsala University.

Step 4
Below the text "Download your installer for MS Windows 8 and newer", click on the blue box that says "Eduroam".

Step 5
If the download does not start automatically, click on the underlined word "link" in the sentence "In case of problems with the automatic download please use this direct link."

Step 6
The installation process may be depending on the web browser you are using.
Alternative 1: You can open the file from the bottom left corner and click on the menu and click "Open" to start the installation.

Alternative 2: You may also get a message asking if you want to save the file. Click "Save File" and save the file in a folder.

Alternative 3: Open File Explorer on your computer and go to Downloads. There you will find the file "eduroam-W10-Uppsala_University".

Step 7
Go to the folder where you saved the file. Double click on the file "eduroam-W10-Uppsala_University" to start the installation.

Step 8
A dialog box with the installer will appear on the screen. Click "Next".

Step 9
A dialog box will appear with information stating that the installation only works if you are a member of Uppsala University. Click "OK".

Step 10
Enter your user ID followed by "@user.uu.se" and your password B and click "Install".

Step 11
The installation of eduroam is complete. Click "finish".

Step 12
Wait a few seconds and you will be connected to eduroam.
NOTE: Upon installation, two versions of Eduroam may appear in the list of available networks: an "Eduroam" + an "Eduroam® via partner". Neither of these connections will work, and you must manually choose to forget these networks. Once you have chosen to forget these networks, “Eduroam” will appear as an option in the available networks and should work for connecting.
Mac
Step 1
Go to https://cat.eduroam.org.
Step 2
Click "Click here to download your eduroam installer".

Step 3
Enter "Uppsala University" in the search field. Click "Uppsala University".

Step 4
Under the text "Download your installer for Apple device", click on the blue box that says "eduroam".

Step 5
If the download does not start automatically, click on the underlined word "link" in the sentence "In case of problems with the automatic download please use this direct link".

Step 6
The installation file will download to the folder "Downloads".

Step 7
Go to the folder where you saved the file. Double click on the "eduroam-OS_X-Uppsala_University.mobileconfig" file to start the installation.
Step 8
A message will appear about the profile installation. Click the X up in the left corner if you want to close the window.

Note: The appearance of the following steps varies depending on which version of Mac OS you have.
Mac OS Big Sur and Monterey
Open System Preferences and click "Profiles".

Mac OS Ventura and Sonoma
Open System Preferences and select "Privacy and Security".

Scroll to the bottom right side and select "Profiles".

Step 10
Note: The appearance of the following steps varies depending on which version of Mac OS you have.
Mac OS Big Sur and Monterey
Click "Install...".

Mac OS Ventura and Sonoma
Under the heading "Downloaded", double-click on "eduroam®".

A dialog box appears, at the bottom of the box click on "Install…".

Step 11
Note: The appearance of the following steps varies depending on which version of Mac OS you have.
Mac OS Big Sur and Monterey
You will be prompted to provide the settings for "eduroam". Enter your user ID followed by "@user.uu.se" and your password B and click "Install".

Mac OS Ventura and Sonoma
You will be asked: Are you sure you want to install the "eduroam" profile? Click "Continue".

You will be prompted to provide the settings for "eduroam". Enter your user ID followed by "@user.uu.se" and your password B and click "Install".

Step 12
A dialog box will appear stating: Profiles/MDM wants to make changes. Enter your local administrator username and password for your Mac computer and click "OK".

Step 13
Wait a few seconds and you will automatically be connected to eduroam.

Linux
Step 1
Go to https://cat.eduroam.org.
Step 2
Click "Click here to download your eduroam installer".

Step 3
Enter "Uppsala University" in the search field. Select Uppsala University.

Step 4
Click "Download your eduroam installer Linux".

Step 5
If the download does not start automatically, click on the underlined word "link" in the sentence "In case of problems with the automatic download please use this direct link."

Step 6
Select to save the downloaded file in a folder of your choice, for example Downloads, and click "OK".

Step 7
Open the Terminal program.

Step 8
Enter "cd" and the path to the folder you saved the eduroam installation file in and press Enter.

Step 9
Enter "python3 eduroam-linux-Uppsala_University.py" and pressEnter to start the installation.

Step 10
A dialog box appears indicating that the installation has been prepared for Uppsala University. Click "OK".

Step 11
A dialog box appears with information that the installation only works if you are a member of Uppsala University and asks if you want to continue. Click "Yes".

Step 12
Enter your AKKA ID followed by "@user.uu.se". Then enter your password B and repeat the password. Then click ‘OK’

Step 13
A dialog box appears indicating that the installation was successful. Click "OK". Wait a few seconds and you will be automatically connected to eduroam.

Step 14
In certain versions of the Linux OS, such as Ubuntu, additional steps are required for the connection to eduroam to work. Go to settings. Click on "Privacy & security" and then under "System" click on "Connectivity".

Step 15
Under "Connectivity", there is a feature called "Connectivity checking". This feature should be disabled. After you disable this, the connection to eduroam should work.

Problems?
If you encounter problems connecting to eduroam:
- If you have previously tried to connect your device, you can try forgetting the eduroam network and then follow the instructions again.
- Try changing password B to another one and follow the instructions again.
If you still can’t get it to work and need further assistance, contact IT support.
Sunet
The University’s network is connected to the internet via Sunet – the universities’ organisation and infrastructure for national and international data communications.

Rules for the wireless network
The usage of the computer network at Uppsala University is intended to facilitate studying, research and normal working duties. Other types of usage can be permitted provided it does not affect the intended usage or cause harm to Uppsala University.
The following applies:
- All usage of user accounts and computer networks must follow Swedish laws and regulations.
- User accounts, passwords and codes are individual and must be used only by the intended individual.
- Computers, mobile devices and other equipment connected to Uppsala University’s computer network must have relevant protection such as anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall.
- Sunet’s ethical rules regulate other usage. Sunet judges unethical behaviour to be when someone
- attempts to gain access to network resources that they do not have the right to,
- attempts to conceal their user identity,
- attempts to interfere or disrupt the intended usage of the network,
- clearly wastes available resources (personnel, hardware or software),
- attempts to disrupt or destroy computer-based information,
- infringes on the privacy of others or
- attempts to insult or offend others.
For all use of the University’s computer network, traffic metadata is saved for trouble-shooting or investigation of suspected violation of laws, regulations or university rules.
These rules are based on Uppsala University’s General directions of IT field (in Swedish).
Any person found violating or suspected of violating these rules can be disconnected from the network for investigation. Furthermore, disciplinary or legal action may be taken.
