Erasmus grant for studies
Students who go on an exchange to one of the Erasmus+ programme countries can apply for the Erasmus grant for studies. If you are going to participate in a long blended mobility of 60 days or more, you can apply for the Erasmus grant for studies
Who can apply for the Erasmus grant for studies?
In order to apply for the grant, the following conditions must be fulfilled:
- You must have been granted exchange studies through your department or faculty, or exchange studies through the university-wide agreements, at a partner university in one of the programme countries within Erasmus+.
- You must be registered as a full-time student at Uppsala University at the time of your grant application, and intend to graduate from Uppsala University.
- For doctoral students who will participate in Erasmus studies and conduct research, the research must be part of their doctoral studies.
- Your exchange must correspond to full-time studies.
- You must not have another EU grant for the same time period.
Students with a residence permit
Students studying in Sweden on a residence permit should check with the Swedish Migration Agency that participation in exchange studies or traineeships outside Sweden does not affect their residence permit. Please refer to the Swedish Migration Agency's website.
How long can I receive the Erasmus grant for studies?
You can receive an Erasmus grant multiple times, but the following rules apply to how long and how many times you can apply for an Erasmus grant:
- Within the Erasmus programme, one month is considered as 30 days. You can receive Erasmus grant for a maximum of 12 months (360 days) within each study cycle (Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral levels). Students who are studying long programmes that are not divided into different levels, such as the Medicine Programme, may spend a total of 24 months (720) on Erasmus exchange and/or traineeship throughout their programme.
- If you have previously participated in an exchange or traineeship with an Erasmus grant, whether through other Swedish institutions or abroad, that period also counts towards the 12 months (360 days).
- The minimum duration for exchange studies with an Erasmus grant is 2 months (60 days), and the maximum is 12 months (360 days).
- Your exchange must be equivalent to full-time studies. To be eligible for the Erasmus grant, you must complete at least 75% of 30 ECTS credits (full-time studies), which is 22.5 ECTS credits per semester. As long as you meet this requirement, your Erasmus grant will not be affected
What does the grant consist of?
The grant does not provide full cost coverage. It is intended to cover additional costs during your exchange. The size of the grant may vary from one year to another.
When the grant is calculated, the rate used is that of the European Central Bank's exchange rate on the date Uppsala University prepares the payment. This occurs 7–10 days before the payment is deposited into your account.
