ENLIGHT BIP Courses

ENLIGHT BIP Courses are delivered in a format that combines online learning with on-site teaching. As a student, you complete most of the course online and take part in a mandatory on-campus week at the partner university hosting the course. This format is known as blended mobility (BIP).

ENLIGHT BIP Courses are developed by teachers from at least three different higher education institutions and are worth 3–10 credits. Within the range of courses, there are both disciplinary and interdisciplinary courses at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels. Entry requirements are specified in each course description.

To explore the possibilities of transferring credits for a course towards your degree, you should contact your study counsellor or programme coordinator before applying. Read more about transfer of credits.

The courses available for application for autumn 2026 will be published here shortly.

About ENLIGHT BIP Courses

To apply for ENLIGHT BIP Courses, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You are registered as a student at Uppsala University during the semester in which the course is offered.
  • You are registered for 30 credits at Uppsala University at the time of application. These credits must be completed by the start of the following semester, or by the start of the BIP course if there are special reasons. If you have an approved academic leave of absence registered in Ladok, you may be granted an exemption. Please attach the decision certificate to your application.
  • Students registered for an internship course in Ladok are eligible to apply for an ENLIGHT BIP Course.
  • You intend to graduate from Uppsala University.
  • You meet the entry requirements for each course you apply for. The entry requirements are described in the respective course descriptions.

Please note that:

  • If you are offered a place on a course delivered in a blended format, you must be able to attend the mandatory on-site component at the host university. The dates for each course are stated in the course description.
  • You may not have an exchange semester planned during the same semester as the ENLIGHT BIP Course.
  • Priority will be given to students who have not previously been offered a place on a ENLIGHT BIP Course.

How many times can I apply?

There is no limit to how many times you can apply during your studies, but you may apply for a maximum of three courses per semester.

Fee-paying students who are enrolled in a full-time study programme at Uppsala University, are eligible to apply for ENLIGHT BIP Courses.

To know if you can take the course as part of your 30 credits study load next semester, please consult with your programme coordinator before applying. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure to communicate with the department to know if the ENLIGHT BIP course can be included the programme.

The credits for the course have the same fee as your other credits at Uppsala University. This means that if you can include the course in your study programme (for example by taking 25 credits in Uppsala, and a 5 credit ENLIGHT BIP course), you will pay the tuition fee for 30 credits as usual.

If you, for example, want to take 30 credits in Uppsala next semester, and an additional 5 credits at an ENLIGHT university, Uppsala University will charge for the additional ECTS credits before the semester begins, based on your tuition fee. You, as a student, have to ask for this invoice at feemaster@uu.se, and indicate “ENLIGHT extra course” in the title of your email.

Students with a residence permit

Students studying in Sweden on a residence permit should check with the Swedish Migration Agency that participation in ENLIGHT BIP Courses outside Sweden does not affect their residence permit. Please refer to the Swedish Migration Agency's website.

If you are planning to take ENLIGHT BIP Courses, you can apply for the Erasmus+ grant for blended mobility. The grant can be applied for once you have been admitted to a course that combines physical mobility (for a minimum of five and a maximum of 30 days) with a mandatory virtual component, either before, during or after the physical mobility period. You can find more information on the pages about the Erasmus grant for blended mobility.

ENLIGHT BIP Courses are courses aimed at students studying at one of the ten universities that are part of the ENLIGHT alliance. The courses are offered by one or more of the alliance’s partner universities.

Please note that the course offering varies between calls and that not all universities offer courses in every call.

Application

The application is open:

  • 15 March–15 April for studies in the autumn semester of 2026
  • 15 October–15 November for studies in the spring semester of 2027

The application and other mandatory documentation are submitted electronically through the application system MoveON.

In your application, you will need to include your academic Transcript of Records. The transcript of records can be obtained from Ladok. If you have studied at other Swedish universities, please attach a national transcript of records.

If you have completed a full Bachelor's degree at a foreign university, we also request that you include this document.

If you meet the eligibility requirements and apply for an ENLIGHT BIP Course, you may be offered a place if there are available spots. If more eligible students apply than there are places, the selection is made by lottery.

When the application period has closed, you will receive an email with the result of your application.

If you are offered a place on a course, you will have a few days to accept or decline the offer. You must respond within the stated deadline that will be communicated to you. Make sure to check your email regularly, including your spam folder, and respond on time. If you do not respond, the offer will be considered declined.

You will be nominated to the host university that offers the course you wish to take. After this, the host university will contact you and provide information on how to complete your application with them. Please read all instructions carefully. If you have any questions about your application, you should first contact your contact person at the host university.

Once the host university has received and processed your application, you will receive an admission notification. Processing times vary between universities and depend on when the course is offered. It may therefore take some time before you receive your admission notification. Please note that while we facilitate the opportunity to take a ENLIGHT BIP course, it is always the host university that decides whether you meet the entry requirements for admission.

Accommodation and travel
Once you have received your admission notification, you can start planning for your course, for example by arranging accommodation and transportation to your destination.

Students taking a ENLIGHT BIP Course are responsible for arranging and covering the costs of accommodation and travel to and from the on-site component of the course. You can apply for an Erasmus grant, which can be used to cover travel and accommodation costs.
