Erasmus+ ICM grant
Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM) is a grant programme for students who will carry out exchange studies in an Erasmus+ ICM programme country. You apply for the grant after you have been offered an exchange placement. You will be contacted if you are eligible to apply.
Who can apply for the Erasmus+ ICM grant?
The eligibility requirements to apply for the Erasmus+ ICM grant are as follows:
- You must have been granted exchange studies through your department or faculty, or exchange studies through the university-wide agreements, at an Erasmus+ ICM partner university.
- You are registered as a full-time student at Uppsala University at the time of application and intend to receive your degree from Uppsala University.
- You have completed a minimum of 60 credits before departure. However, certain departments require incoming students to have completed more than 60 credits.
- You may not receive other funding from the EU during the same study period.
You may conduct studies within Erasmus ICM for a maximum of 360 days per study level (Bachelor, Master, PhD). According to the regulations, one month is 30 days. You can go on an Erasmus ICM exchange several times. The minimum period for exchange studies is 60 days.
Students with a residence permit
Students studying in Sweden on a residence permit should check with the Swedish Migration Agency that participation in exchange studies outside Sweden does not affect their residence permit. Please refer to the Swedish Migration Agency's website.
Where can I study with the Erasmus+ ICM grant?
If you have been offered an exchange placement at any of the following universities, you may apply for the Erasmus+ ICM grant:

- Universidade de São Paulo (via the Department of Physics and Astronomy)
- Colombia
- Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (via the Department of Peace and Conflict Research)
- Georgia
- Ilia State University
- Ghana
- University of Ghana
- Kazakhstan
- KIMEP University
- Morocco
- Al Akhawayn University
- South Africa
- Central University of Tehnology
- Stellenbosch University
What does the grant consist of?
The grant is intended to cover additional costs associated with your stay abroad and may not fully cover all expenses. The amount of the grant depends on the exchange rate at the time of payment.
All students who have been awarded an Erasmus+ ICM grant will receive:
- EUR 700/month
- Travel grant
Travel grant for each country:
- Albania: 395 EUR
- Brazil: 1735 EUR
- Colombia: 1735 EUR
- Georgia: 395 EUR
- Ghana: 1188 EUR
- Kazakhstan: 1188 EUR
- Morocco: 580 EUR
- South Africa: 1188 EUR
Additional grant for fewer opportunities
Uppsala University has been allocated extra funds for participants applying for the Erasmus+ ICM grant with a background categorised as "fewer opportunities." The number of grants available is limited.
Fewer opportunities include disabilities, health issues, limited qualifications, factors linked to the education system, cultural and linguistic factors, social and economic factors, factors related to discrimination, as well as geographical factors.
Please indicate in your grant application for the Erasmus+ ICM grant that you also wish to apply for these funds.
Application instructions step-by-step
- You apply for an exchange to one of the programme countries within Erasmus+ ICM either through your department or faculty or the university-wide agreements.
- After you have been granted an exchange where you are eligible for an Erasmus+ grant, you will receive information on how to submit your grant application.
- The grant application and other mandatory documentation are submitted electronically through the system MoveON.
The application is open:
- For studies beginning in the autumn: 1 May–31 May.
- For studies beginning in the spring: 1 November–30 November.

Talk to us
During the semester, except on public holidays and during the Christmas and Easter holidays, you can meet with our International Officers during drop-in sessions on Tuesdays from 11:00–12:00 and Thursdays from 13:00–14:00.
During the autumn semester 2026, the first session will be held on 1 September and the final session on 17 December.
As the application period for exchange studies closes on 16 October, we will offer additional drop-in sessions on 9, 11 and 16 November from 13:00–14:00.
You can choose between an online or in-person meeting:
- Online drop-in via Zoom (individual meetings).
- In-person drop-in in Uppsala at Studenttorget in Segerstedthuset.
- Students at Campus Gotland can book an in-person meeting on campus.
