Compensation for mentors

As a mentor, you will provide students with tools and strategies to be able to plan their studies on their own. Being a mentor may include prioritising different tasks, clarifying schedules and checking how the work and the planning proceeds. Once you have worked as a mentor you can get a certificate.

You receive compensation as a mentor.

The compensation

The compensation is 162 SEK/hour plus a 12% holiday allowance. Note that no Ob add-on applies for this assignment.

You are personally responsible for reporting your hours. Please remember that you must register your hours no later than the last day of the month to get paid on the 25th of the following month.

What entitles you to compensation?

  • One hour of "preparation time" before each meeting with a student.
  • Implemented meetings.
  • The start-up meeting with the student and the coordinator.
  • When a student and you have scheduled a meeting and the student does not show up. The exception is if you have received a cancellation two hours before the meeting. If more than three missed or cancelled appointments, contact the mentor coordinator.

What does not entitle you to compensation?

  • The mentor introduction.
  • Supervision and training during the semester.

The first time you will receive compensation

  1. Register in "Primula": Register your personal details to get a temporary login code for Primula(Primula is the payment system at Uppsala University). It takes 1–2 days before your details are fully registered in the payment system; after that, you can start to report your activity.
  2. Register your bank account details: To have your compansation paid into your bank account, you must register your bank account details.
  3. Tax and tax adjustment: 30% tax is deducted directly from your compensation. If you do not want the tax to be deducted, you must request tax adjustment from the Tax Agency (Skatteverket).

Log in to Primula and report your time

When you have got your temporary login code for Primula you must register your hours in Primula to get compensation.

Use the "Timersättning" form in Primula and in the next step "Timersättning övrig" as the type of compensation.

  • Create and send in separate time reports for each assignment/student.
  • Fill in your compensation.
  • State some short info on the completed work and state "Mentor (M)" (and student's initials).
  • You do not have to state the exact times.
  • Write "arvodenstudentstod@uu.se" in the text box "Kontaktuppgift institution".

Tips for succeeding as a mentor

  • In the mentor’s handbook (only in Swedish) you will find helpful hints on what it is like to be a mentor.
  • Download a weekly schedule that you or the student can use when planning the studies.
