New professor 2026 at the Faculty of Pharmacy

One new professor will be inaugurated at the Faculty of Pharmacy. Here she presents her research.

Alexandra Teleki, advanced drug delivery

Drugs must reach the right place in the body, in sufficient quantities and for a sufficiently long period, in order to produce the desired effect. Drug delivery involves developing methods and designing drugs, as well as ensuring that these reach their target in the body safely and effectively. Nanomedicine offers new opportunities to control how drugs are transported in the body, but also to detect disease. In my research, I develop and study nanomaterials – extremely small materials, often thousands of times smaller than the width of a strand of hair – for both treatment and diagnosis. I investigate how their size, structure and surface properties affect how they are transported within the body and interact with cells and tissues. One key area of research is diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, where, amongst other things, we are developing nanomaterials that can identify inflammation and make it visible through medical imaging. More recently, I have also focused my research on women’s health, where I am using new technologies to develop more personalised and effective drug treatments. The overall aim of my research is to contribute to more accurate methods for detecting and treating disease.
