Are you interested in working with Partial Differential Equations, with the support of competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Are you looking for an employer that invests in sustainable employeeship and offers safe, favourable working conditions? We welcome you to apply for a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University.

The Department of Mathematics conducts research and provides education at undergraduate and graduate levels in mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. The number of employees is 130, including 40 PhD students. The group Analysis and PDEs is internationally active and has a wide focus, with research on topics ranging from the mathematical analysis of PDEs to applications to machine learning and mathematical physics. To read more about the Department of Mathematics, please visit our webpage.

Duties

The candidate will conduct research in the area of PDEs and its applications. The candidate is expected to collaborate with other group members.

Requirements

PhD degree in Mathematics or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in Mathematics. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

The candidate should have a good general knowledge of analysis, with an emphasis on topics related to PDEs. The ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with others is important. A good command of written and spoken English is required.

Additional qualifications

Although the work falls into the realm of pure mathematics, a certain interest in applications may be useful, due to the connection between some of the research topics, deep/machine learning and computational mathematics.

About the employment

The employment is a temporary position of 2 years according to central collective agreement. Full time position. Starting date 1 September 2025 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
