Research Project

Victim Protection in Medicine – Exploiting Practical Knowledge of Medical Staff to Enhance Multi-Professional Contact with Victims of Domestic Violence (VIPROM)

An EU-funded project in collaboration between Sweden, Greece, Italy, Austria, and Germany.

In response to the widespread need for sustainable and relevant training on intimate partner violence within the medical sector, the VIPROM project aims to develop target group-specific curricula on domestic violence for practicing physicians, nurses, midwives, and students in these fields. Across six sites in five EU member states, VIPROM will design and implement "train-the-trainer" programmes, enabling the roll-out of these curricula in pilot programmes where professionals teach peers within their own profession—reaching approximately 500 individuals per professional group.

The development of these curricula will be informed by needs assessments within each target group and by two case studies showcasing good practice in the sustainable organisational integration of domestic violence training in healthcare settings. This approach will enable the project to deliver profession-adapted training materials to healthcare professionals.

In addition, the project will provide healthcare institutions with practical guidelines for the long-term integration of the developed curricula into professional training across the EU, even after the project's conclusion. To expand its reach beyond the participating countries, VIPROM will make the curricula available through a 10-part webinar series and distribute the curricula and implementation guidelines to 150 specialised victim protection organisations in over 46 countries.
