Short presentation
Laima Vaige is associate professor and senior lecturer in private international law and a member of the scientific advisory board at the Centre for Multidisciplinary Research on Religion and Society (CRS) of Uppsala University. She is a team-leader at CRS regarding Theme 3: Family, Gender and Demography.
Biography
I am an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in Private International Law.
During the 6th term of the law program, I teach Private International Law and EU Law, and I am the director of these advanced-level courses: "Democracy and Human Rights in European Context," "EU Private International Law" (in Swedish, together with Marie Linton), and "Children, Human Rights, and the Law" (together with Jameson Garland) at the Faculty of Law.
I am the recipient of the Benzelius Award (2023) from the Royal Society of Sciences for "outstanding comparative law studies analyzing the fundamental obligations of states to safeguard human rights and the protection of sexual minorities in Europe."
Research
My current research interests are: Gender from the Perspective of Private International Law, Protection of Vulnerabilities in Private International Law, and International Succession Law.
