I am a researcher and project coordinator at Uppsala University, specializing in global health, gender-based violence, reproductive rights, and migration. With a PhD in Global Health and a background in medicine, my research focuses on health inequalities and social norms affecting vulnerable populations.

I coordinate research within the IMHm group, working on sexual and reproductive health and migration. I also contribute to teaching in the Global Health master’s program.

Biography

Dr. Ayanthi Wickramasinghe is a researcher and project coordinator at Uppsala University, specializing in global health, gender-based violence, reproductive rights, and health inequalities. She holds a PhD in Global Health from Uppsala University and has a background in medicine, with extensive experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.

Her research focuses on gendered violence, migration, and health disparities, with particular interest in the intersection of social norms, ethnicity, and access to healthcare. Her doctoral work explored institutionalized violence in university settings, analyzing its psychological and social impacts. She has published in high-impact journals and collaborates on interdisciplinary projects bridging medicine, sociology, and public health.

She is actively involved in teaching and mentoring, contributing to master's programs in global health. She has also worked in various international settings, bringing a broad, multicultural perspective to her research.

She is currently coordinating research initiatives within the International Women's and Maternal Health and Migration (IMHm) group at Uppsala University, focusing on the health and rights of marginalized populations.
