Short presentation
Anne H Berman's research concerns digital interventions to reduce the treatment gap for common mental disorders (CMDs) among university students and for addictive behaviors among students and adults. Earlier work resulted in development of the DUDIT, a self-report drug screening test used all over the world. She teaches addiction, assessment, existential psychology and behavioral medicine and is now Past President of the International Society of Behavioral Medicine.

Biography
Anne H Berman, PhD, is a professor of psychology and clinical psychologist, with a research focus on assessment and low-threshold digital treatment of addiction and mental health issues within a behavioral medicine perspective. Her overall research goal is to reduce the treatment gap, which arises when people with signs and symptoms of mental health issues - including problematic addictive behaviors - do not recognize that their problems can be assessed and treated, and do not seek help. Based at Uppsala University and affiliated as a researcher at Karolinska Institutet, her research focuses on university students with mental health issues and on digital interventions for adults with problematic addictive behaviors. She has authored over 175 publications, including over 125 peer-review articles, 4 books and 12 book chapters, as well as numerous Swedish-language research reports. Clinically, she worked as a psychotherapist in addictions for 10 years, followed by four years as director of the Swedish National Helpline for problem gamblers and their family members. Through her a longstanding interest in behavioral medicine, she has produced a Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) on behavioral medicine, KIBEHMEDx, available without cost on Canvas (earlier edX). She has served on the board of the International Society of Behavioral Medicine (ISBM) since 2010 and is now Past President of ISBM. She currently also serves on the boards of the Swedish Behavioral Medicine Society as well as the Swedish Existential Psychotherapy Society (sept.nu).

Fix the problem yourself or seek help?
My research focuses on reducing the "treatment gap", or the distance between those who do not seek help for their problems, and available interventions.
