Biography

Gerrit Boschloo studied Molecular Sciences at the Wageningen Agricultural University (the Netherlands) and obtained his degree (Landbouwkundig Ingenieur) in 1991. His examination work in Physical Chemistry was on photochemical production of hydrogen using Ru(bpy)3 and colloidal RuO2. He performed PhD research at the Delft University of Technology 1992-1996 in the Applied Inorganic Chemistry group led by Prof. J. Schoonman, under supervision of Dr. A. Goossens, and defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled "Solar Energy Conversion by Porphyrin-Sensitized Titanium Dioxide" on December 10th, 1996 (Delft, the Netherlands). He held post-doctoral positions at University College Dublin (Ireland) with Prof. D.J. Fitzmaurice (spectroelectrochemistry of porous nanostructured metal oxides) and at Uppsala University (Sweden) with Prof. Anders Hagfeldt (p-type NiO and dye-sensitized solar cells). Between 2005-2008 he was employed as a researcher at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

Currently, he is Professor of Physical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory, Uppsala University, where he leads the solar cell research group. His main research interests are advanced photoelectrochemical characterization of dye-sensitized solar cells and in-depth investigations of lead halide perovskite solar cells. He is author of more than 290 peer-reviewed articles (H-index 89) and appears on the Highly Cited Researchers list for 2018 (Clarivate Analytics). Since 2019, Gerrit is associate editor of ACS Applied Energy Materials. He is also co-founder of Dyenamo AB.
