This year’s edition of the prestigious Shanghai ranking shows that Uppsala University is one of the 100 foremost universities in the world. The University ranks 67th, retaining its high position from previous years.
Each year Jiao Tong University in Shanghai ranks the universities of the world – the so-called Shanghai ranking. It is one of the world’s most prestigious and frequently cited rankings of higher education institutions. They rank 12 000 universities throughout the world, and the 500 best are placed on the list.
"Our high and stable placement confirms that we are one of the foremost universities in the world," says Uppsala University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Kerstin Sahlin.
This year’s list is topped, as in previous years, by the best-known US universities – Harvard, Stanford, MIT, and Berkeley. Uppsala University ranks 67th (last year 66th). Besides Uppsala University, there are two other Swedish institutions among the top 100. Karolinska institutet comes in 44th place, and Stockholm University 81st.
"This ranking can be seen as a spot check of our quality. A great many people follow these rankings, so it’s important to achieve a good placement. Our placement is key in terms of both attracting foreign students and developing strategic collaboration with other universities," says Kerstin Sahlin.
