This means a drop of a few notches compared with last year, when Uppsala University came in 67th. On the other hand, in the subject rankings, where the top 200 universities in each subject are listed, the University improves its positions above all in medicine, engineering, and science.
Every year Jiao Tong University in Shanghai ranks the world’s universities – the so-called Shanghai ranking. It is one of the world’s most prestigious and frequently discussed rankings of higher education institutions. Some 12 000 universities in the world are ranked, and the 500 best are listed.
The list of the world’s foremost universities continues to be dominated by American institutions. If North America is excluded, Uppsala University ranks as one of the world’s top 25 institutions according to this ranking.
– We are delighted every time we find confirmation that we are one of the 100 best universities in the world. We retain our position in the Swedish and northern European contexts. At the same time it must be borne in mind that all ranking lists of this kind must be taken with a pinch of salt. Small variations in individual indicators can sometimes have a major impact, comments Deputy Vice-Chancellor Anders Malmberg.
