New world ranking: Uppsala University in top 100

Uppsala University has strengthened its position as one of the world’s 100 best universities. QS World University Rankings has ranked Uppsala University at 81st place, up two spots from last year.
QS World University Rankings 2012/13 ranks more than 700 universities all over the world, based on six different factors which are weighted as follows:
- Academic reputation, survey based (40%)
- Employer reputation, survey based (10%)
- Citations per faculty (20%)
- Faculty student (20%)
- International students (5%)
- International faculty (5%)
Uppsala University is consistently ranked as one of the 100 best universities in the world. This year Uppsala University has advanced from 83rd to 81st position.
Based on the factors ‘citations’ and ‘academic reputation’, Uppsala University is ranked at 58th and 70th position respectively. The score for ‘employer reputation’ gives a lower ranking of 190.
QS World University Rankings 2012/13 has also ranked the universities based on individual faculty areas. Uppsala University is among the top 100 in four wide faculty areas: Life sciences and medicine (56), natural sciences (66), arts and humanities (81), and social sciences and management (97).
‘We are of course proud to be firmly positioned among the 100 best universities in the world. It is also nice that this ranking indicates that we – a full-scale research university with a wide offering of high quality educations – are doing well in all the faculty areas’, says Uppsala University Vice-Chancellor Eva Åkesson.
‘At the same time, rankings should be considered as quality spot checks. Small variations in single indices can sometimes have a large impact.’
