National Taiwan University Ranking 2012 – NTU Ranking – ranks universities all over the world based on quantity and quality of scientific articles. Uppsala University is on the top 100 list and has climbed from last year’s position of 91 to 88.

The new world ranking ‘NTU Ranking’ is based on the amount of scientific articles and their quality. The quality has been assessed based on quotation statistics and on publishing by highly regarded journals.

The ranking is based on three factors given different weightings:

  • Research productivity (25%)
  • Research impact (35%)
  • Research excellence (40%)

Three Swedish universities are positioned among the top 100:

  • Karolinska Institute (41)
  • Lund University (77)
  • Uppsala University (88)

The NTU ranking lists the 500 best universities in the world but is also divided into a number of research areas. Uppsala University’s best scoring area is Life Sciences, at 79th place on the world ranking.

‘It is gratifying that we are in the top 100 list measuring research performance’, says Uppsala University’s Vice-Chancellor Eva Åkesson.

‘It confirms that we are an international research university of world class. In addition we have climbed the list. But as always you have to be humble to the fact that these things tend to go up and down, also when climbing.’
