The Swedish Research Council is awarding Daniel Stattin, professor of civil law specialising in corporate law at the Faculty of Law, SEK 2.5 million for the research project “Sustainable ownership and corporate governance”.

The debate about sustainable ownership and sustainable investments has exploded in the last six months. The financial research on sustainability in ownership and investments is old, but the fire has been fuelled by experiences from the global financial crisis. In order to have an impact, the financial research findings must have a legal influence. Meanwhile, the current corporate governance regulation, which is based on the Companies Act, stems from a different regulatory ideology. Daniel Stattin will investigate whether a sustainable approach to ownership and investments is supported by current law or if the current law should be modified in some way.
