Although the Uppsala team did not make it to the Final in Luxembourg, it ended amongst the final four in the Regional Final at the Hague University, and amongst the 16 best teams in the competition altogether. A team from Uppsala University has not achieved so well since 2006.

The Uppsala team made its best performance in over ten years in the ELMC by reaching the Regional Final at the Hague University.  Moreover, one of the team members received a special award for his pleading skills. This award is given to exceptionally good pleaders that do not make it to the Final in Luxembourg, and is only given at the discretion of the panel of judges in the Regional Finals.

The team consisted of three students: Edvin Sarrimo, acting as the Commission Agent (Uppsala University), Bahare Sadeghi Gazani, acting as the Applicant (Uppsala University), and Sean Docherty, acting as the Defendant (University of Glasgow) and winner of the special award. Kamil Akdag (King’s College) also participated in the written pleading taking the team to the Regional Final.

The selection of the team, the writing of the submissions and the oral training has been carried out during HT 16 – VT 2017 within the advanced course EU Commercial Law and Litigation, with Santa Slokenberga and Carl Fredrik Bergström as course directors.
