If you are sick – stay home and report it!

The University is currently applying the principle “physically when necessary, digitally when possible” in accordance with the Vice-Chancellor's decision dated 9 June 2020. This means that many elements take place digitally, but that on-campus instruction and examination also take place. Each programme has carefully reviewed what is possible to do within the subject and is trying to make the best of the situation, which means there are great variations within the University. 

Some teaching elements must be done on campus for practical reasons or for quality reasons. Examinations where no (or few) aids are permitted also work best when the students are physically present.

“If you feel sick, stay home. You must also contact the course or programme coordinator of your programme or department, and do not forget to register your sickness absence with Försäkringskassan,” says Cilla Häggkvist, Deputy Head of Division at the Student Affairs and Academic Registry Division.

“The same applies if you belong to a risk group or live with someone who belongs to a risk group. You must decide for yourself whether you can participate in on-campus instruction and examination or if you have to stay home.”  

Why is it important to register your sickness absence with Försäkringskassan?

“It is very important because the student finance authority CSN may take illness into consideration if a student is not able to earn enough credits – but the illness must be documented with Försäkringskassan,” says Cilla Häggkvist. She then adds:

“In such a situation, it can also be a good idea to contact a study counsellor for help in planning your studies.”
