Security situation and Valborg celebrations in Uppsala

On the evening of 29 April, three people were shot dead in Uppsala. According to the police, this is an isolated incident and the assessment is that today’s Valborg celebrations can take place as planned.
The police in Uppsala have initiated a so-called special event, which means that extra resources are being deployed to handle the police work related to yesterday’s shooting at Vaksala square. Police resources that are already dedicated to dealing with the Valborg celebrations, with many travellers, will not be affected by this. The police are increasing their presence both in and outside Uppsala.
Based on the police’s assessment, the University’s parts of the celebration will be carried out as planned.
