Annica Black-Schaffer elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences

On 14 January 2026, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences elected Annica Black-Schaffer, Professor of Quantum Matter Theory at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, as a new member of the class for physics.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is Sweden’s foremost expert panel in science and is divided into ten classes. All ten classes are represented in the Academy Board.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences was founded in 1739, and currently has a total of 480 Swedish and 175 foreign members. Members are elected for life and are full members until the age of 65. After this, members retain the right to attend meetings and express their opinions. The Swedish members are called to the General Meeting approximately ten times a year.
“It is exciting and a great honour to be elected,” says Annica Black-Schaffer.
