Vice-Chancellor again tops ranking of leading materials researchers

On 6 May 2026, Research.com published the fifth edition of its annual global ranking of best materials science scientists. The Vice-Chancellor of Uppsala University, Anders Hagfeldt, once again tops the national list and is ranked in 50th place internationally.
The Research.com ranking recognises individuals whose work continues to drive progress in the field of materials science. In the ranking, Anders Hagfeldt, Vice-Chancellor of Uppsala University, is ranked 50th internationally in materials science and first in Sweden. Hagfeldt has been cited a total of 149,559 times in 754 publications.
In addition, Hagfeldt is ranked 31st in the world in chemistry and he is in first place in Sweden in that field as well.

- Svante Janson, Professor at the Department of Mathematics, ranked first in mathematics.
- Ulf Gyllensten, Professor at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, ranked second in genetics.
- Hans Ellegren, Professor at the Department of Ecology and Genetics, ranked third in genetics.
- Ann-Christine Syvänen, Professor Emeritus at the Department of Medical Sciences, ranked fifth in genetics.
- Carl-Henrik Heldin, Professor at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology, ranked first in molecular biology.
- Tord Ekelöf, Professor Emeritus at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, ranked first in physics, followed immediately by Head of Department Richard Brenner, Professor Arnaud Ferrari and Researcher Mattias Ellert, all from the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
- Peter Stoica, Professor at the Department of Information Technology, ranked first in electronics.
- Lars Tranvik, Professor at the Department of Ecology and Genetics, ranked third in the field of ecology and evolution.
- Hans Ågren, Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, ranked fourth in chemistry.
- Per Venge, Professor at the Department of Medical Sciences, ranked fourth in microbiology.
- Joakim Nivre, Professor at the Department of Linguistics and Philology, ranked fifth in computer science.
- Christer Janson, Professor at the Department of Medical Sciences, ranked fifth in immunology.
