Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF)
The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) is an international research infrastructure with the aim of making available data on biodiversity. Hundreds of millions of observations and registrations – ranging from museum collections to observations from private individuals – are collected in standardised formats in a central database and made freely available to science and to the public. Sweden actively participates through the Swedish Biodiversity Data Infrastructure (SBDI) node hosted by the Swedish Museum of Natural History.
The Council for Research Infrastructures (RFI) funds this research infrastructure, which the Swedish Research Council considers to be in the national interest.
