Center for the Human Past

The Center for the Human Past combines archaeology, genetics, and linguistics to provide an overall picture of human development over the past 10,000 years. This period was shaped by agricultural food production, population growth, linguistic changes, and the emergence of early civilizations, but the story is more complex than previously believed.

The Center’s goal is to train a new generation of interdisciplinary researchers so that they can understand the data, models, and analytical techniques of the other disciplines, use large databases of all three disciplines, address new research questions prompted by their immersion in them, and build a solid collaborative network.

The Center’s interdisciplinary research school and a fellowship program in collaboration with the research institute Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study, SCAS, will combine all the insights to unravel the mysteries of human prehistory.
