General provisions

The content, length and level of the education are regulated by chapter 1, section 9 of the Higher Education Act 1 (1992:1434), by the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), and by the Ordinance on changes to the Higher Education Ordinance (2006:1053).

Learning outcomes

After finishing the course, the students should be able to describe

- adequate principles in electromagnetism and safety

- parameters of importance regarding imaging quality such as screens, X-ray geometry and other technical reasons for imaging blurredness

- the function and structure of the image plate system and printers used when printing X-ray images

- the principles of digitalisation

- describe technical aids to minimise the radiation dose to the patient

- the design and function of the X-ray equipment including X-ray tubes and image receivers

- the concepts of window techniques, subtraction, roadmapping and quantitative measurements

- the differences between various image receivers by comparing properties and performance

Conventional and basic digital X-ray techniques

Medical radiation biophysics

Ultrasound/ultrasonography

Measuring techniques

Instruction

Theoretical studies: 6 credit points

Lectures, seminars and study assignments.

Clinical studies: 1.5 credit points

Laboratory sessions in measuring technique: measurement of exposure times and radiation as well as radiation geometry.

Compulsory parts of the course:

lectures in ultrasound/ultrasonography, nuclear medical techniques and gas theory, study assignments and examination, laboratory sessions, seminars

Assessment

Examinations, as written and oral presentations, individually and in groups.

Students failing examinations have the right to participate in renewed examinations at another 4 occasions (In total: 5 examinations)
