Entry requirements
* Passed results in Physiology 9 credits and in Basic neuroanatomy
* 52.5 passed credits
* All oral, written and practical examinations in physiotherapy from earlier semesters must be passed
* If the examination consists of a report, this should be submitted before end of the actual semester and must be approved at the latest the following semester
* Submitted swimming certificate to confirm swimming skill
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to prepare the student for the basics in independent exercise of the physiotherapy profession as regards neurological injuries/diseases.
After completed course, the student should be able to:
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
1. Handle information concerning the patients in a correct way based on current laws, ordinances and guidelines
2. Orally account for and discuss measures and treatment results within neurological physiotherapy
SKILLS AND ABILITY
3. Apply knowledge and show skills in assessment, treatment and evaluation methods within neurological physiotherapy
4. Work ergonomically and with good safety for the patient
5. Interact with relatives and staff
6. Pay attention to and meet patients in crisis
EVALUATION ABILITY AND ATTITUDES
7. Analyse and evaluate clinical conduct in relation to evidence and empirical practice i.e. clinical reasoning and decision making
8. Assess, stimulate and evaluate the patient's attitude towards (motivation) and confidence to own ability (self-efficacy) to carry out training
9. Show self-knowledge and reflect on own values, attitudes and behaviours in interplay with patients, relatives and other health-care personnel
Content
The course comprises 16.5 higher education credits, of which 7.5 HE credits theory and 6 weeks clinical education worth 9 HE credits. The course contains
* Assessment, preventive and treatment measures and evaluation; oral, written and practical application in the individual patient case and in groups, theoretical and clinical..
* Application of behavioural medicine methods in the individual patient case and in groups
* Keeping medical records and other documentation in connection with patient care
* Planning and organising own work
* Clinical reasoning and decision making
Instruction
* Lectures, assessments, practical applications, processing and presentation of patient cases
* Individual supervision during clinical placement when planning, implementing, following up and assessing tasks in clinic.
