Master programme course- track Master in Sustainable Management
Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree equivalent to a Swedish degree of at least 180 credits with at least 90 credits in business studies. Proficiency in English. This is normally attested by means of an internationally recognised test such as TOEFL or IELTS.
Learning outcomes
Having completed the course, students are expected to be able to:
- Understand the reality of small and medium size enterprises (SME) in different cultural and socio-economic settings
- Demonstrate the role and importance of the role of the SME sector in economic development
- Compare managerial and organisational strategies and perspectives in different cultural environments
- Analyse the conditions for SME with particular focus on growth and sustainability
- Understand how value is created and how value relates to economic development
- Understand that the reference to SMEs and the SME sector as something well defined is not always very meaningful since virtually all business in many countries around the world are SMEs. The label is therefore not significantly more precise than speaking of the full and diverse set of domestic enterprises.
Content
The course focuses on central aspects of small business management as well as a discussion how much SMEs contribute to economic and social development in general and to local and regional development in particular. Various aspects on management and SMEs in different cultural and socio-economic contexts are presented and illustrated trough cases, papers and books as well as lectures and seminars.
Instruction
The course consists of compulsory seminars, lectures and tutoring. The students work in teams and are expected to be very active both during and in between seminars. The language of instruction is English.
Assessment
Your performance in the course will be evaluated on the basis on an individual assignment, on a group task and on a written exam. Class participation is taken into account. (The course grades are Pass with distinction (VG), Pass (G) or Fail (U))
Uppsala University takes cheating and plagiarism seriously, and disciplinary action will be taken against any student suspected of being involved in any sort of cheating and/or plagiarism. The disciplinary action takes the form of warnings and limited suspensions.
