Entry requirements
Completed courses of 150 credits including (1) 60 credits in biology and 30 credits in chemistry or 30 credits in earth science, or (2) 90 credits in biology. In both cases including either Fundamental and Molecular Systematics 10 credits or participation in Evolutionary Patterns 15 credits and 3 credits Floristics. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide students with knowledge on how to identify fungi collected in the field, how to document them, and how to preserve specimens for future identification.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- identify and name common fungal species and genera/families, and describe their ecology.
- document characteristics necessary for identification.
- handle fungal material to prepare specimens of findings.
Content
The course covers the study of fungi and their habitats, including fieldwork, as well as practical and theoretical work on the taxonomic identification of fungi. The course utilizes various literature and online resources for species identification.
Instruction
The course is delivered through online teaching, field studies, material studies, and literature assignments.
Assessment
Parts of the course: Theory 2 credits; Practical work 3 credits. The theory part is examined through a written project assignment. The practical component s assessed through active participation and a practical exam.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
