Entry requirements

120 credits including including 30 credits in computer science, data science, information systems or applied computational science. Human-Computer Interaction or System Design with a User Perspective. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • understand principles and theories of human-robot interaction
  • carry out user requirement analysis and design of human-robot interaction in concrete scenarios
  • design and develop social robot behaviours for human-robot interaction
  • use quantitative and qualitative approaches for evaluation and analysis of human-robot interaction dataevaluate the impact that social robots may have on ethical values like privacy and autonomy that are important for users and society at large
  • design and conduct a human-robot interaction research project involving human users.

Content

Theories and methods of human-robot interaction; Paradigms of human-robot interaction; Interaction techniques; Programming robot behaviours for human-robot interaction; Human robot interaction design; User requirements analysis and prototyping for social robots; Evaluation of human-robot interaction; Applications of human-robot interaction; Robots and ethics.

Instruction

Lectures and assignments.

Assessment

Written assignments (2 credits); oral and written presentation of a project (13 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.

Other regulations

This course cannot be included in the same degree as 1MD043 Human-Robot Interaction, 1MD044 Human-Robot Interaction with Research Project, or 1MD300 Social Robotics and Human-Robot Interaction.
