Entry requirements
110 credits, including 60 credits in Industrial Engineering and Management. Participation in Six Sigma and Change Management.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- give an account of central terms and concepts within scientific methods for the field of industrial engineering and management,
- apply a scientific working method, including problem formulation, method selection, data collection, data and result analysis, and reference management,
- discuss different methodological approaches and give an account of their advantages and limitations,
- identify socially useful and scientifically relevant questions within industrial engineering and management, and how they should be methodologically approached in order to form relevant knowledge about the current issues,
- orally and in writing, give an account of and discuss information, problems and solutions in dialogue and collaboration with different groups.
Content
This course discusses basic scientific theory and research ethics, specifically for the field of industrial engineering and management, which are equally important in scientific research as in development work in technical companies, organisations and industries. The course will also include:
- formulation of problems, purpose and questions,
- method selection and validity,
- information search and literature studies,
- data collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data,
- reference management.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars, case studies, and supervision.
Assessment
Written and oral presentation of case studies, written exam and active participation in seminars.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding targeted pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
Other regulations
The course cannot be included in the same degree as 1TG276 Degree Project Feasibility Study in Industrial Engineering and Management.
