Biography

Research

My research focuses on the interplay between digitalization, work environments, and the impact of technology on people. I am particularly interested in how IT systems are designed and implemented to support health and well-being in the workplace, with a specific focus on eHealth, inclusive design, and the effects of automation and AI on work environments. In these areas, I have led several research projects, including studies on the impact of digitalization in healthcare and workplaces and the development of digital services and tools that support both users and caregivers.

I have been the primary supervisor for:

- Jonathan Källbäcker, PhD expected 2028

- Awais Ahmad, PhD expected 2026

- Shweta Premanandan, PhD defended 2024

- Gerolf Nauwerck, halfway seminar 2016

- Diane Golay, PhD defended 2022

- Thomas Lind, PhD defended 2017

I have also been a co-supervisor for:

- Celina Sving, Uppsala University, PhD expected 2029

- Andreas Bergqvist, Uppsala University, PhD expected 2029

- Irene Muli, Uppsala University, PhD expected 2024 or 2025

- Annika Bärkås, Uppsala University, PhD expected 2024

- Hanife Rexhepi, University of Skövde, PhD defended 2019

- Christian Grünloh, KTH, PhD defended 2018

- Marta Larusdottir, KTH, PhD defended 2012

I have supervised or am currently supervising the following postdoctoral researchers:

- Magdalena Stadin (2021–2025)

- Jonas Moll (2016–2018)

- Thomas Lind (2017–2019)

- Isabella Scandurra (2014-2016)

In my research group, Human Technology and Organisation (HTO), we conduct fundamental and applied research in healthcare, work environments, and the digitalization of workplaces. Various research grants fund our research, and we often work in interdisciplinary projects that combine empirical studies with the development of new theories and methods. An example of our work is the research project "AROA," which explores work engagement in automation and robotics, funded by AFA Försäkring.

Since 2013, I have also lead the DOME consortium (Deployment of Online Medical Records and E-Health Services), which has played a central role in exploring and improving the use of digital patient records in Sweden.

Examination Committees and Opponent Roles

I have served as an opponent and member of approximately 30 PhD dissertation committees, both nationally and internationally, focusing on Human-Computer Interaction and eHealth.

Teaching and Graduate Courses

I have been teaching continuously for over 30 years and have been awarded the title of "Excellent Teacher." Additionally, I organize and lead graduate courses, often in collaboration with other researchers, focusing on HCI-related dissertations and reviewing research articles.

I annually review several theses, primarily from the STS, HCI, IT, and computer science programs.

Industry Collaboration

I have extensive experience collaborating with industry, particularly in projects related to digitalization and work environments. I have also worked in many action research projects.

Assignments

I have held several leadership positions within academia, including the role of Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor on Equal Opportunities at Uppsala University. I have also been a member of the university's permanent electoral committee and active in various program and recruitment committees.

Expert Reviewer and External Evaluator

I have been an expert reviewer and external evaluator at many universities and research institutions, both nationally and internationally. In this role, I have reviewed applications for academic positions, assessed research projects, and contributed to the recruitment processes for professors and senior lecturers. My work as an expert reviewer has included evaluating research quality, scientific contributions, and teaching excellence, focusing on ensuring that candidates meet high academic standards.
