The 30 April (Walpurgis Eve) celebrations in Uppsala are infused with tradition. The running of the falls, the herring lunch, the donning of the caps and greeting the spring at the Gunilla Bell are just some of the day’s activities that many people enjoy year after year. It’s time once again to dust off your student cap and celebrate the arrival of spring together!

Crowd with student caps

The donning of the caps is the high point of the 30 April celebrations in Uppsala. Thousands of students, residents and visitors gather below the University Library, Carolina Rediviva, to collectively don their student caps. As the clock strikes 15:00, the Vice-Chancellor of Uppsala University waves his student cap from the balcony of Carolina Rediviva – the signal that spring has arrived. A sea of enthusiastic 30 April revellers wave back. Come and experience the fantastic atmosphere on Carolina hill!

Right after the donning of the caps, Orphei Drängar (OD) will sing a few spring songs on the steps of Carolina Rediviva.

We look forward to seeing you in front of Carolina Rediviva at 15:00 – on the dot!
