New honorary doctorate at the Department of Pharmacy

Professor Kathy Giacomini is based at the University of California, San Francisco, since 1982. She studies transport molecules, which exist in cell membranes in the body’s organs and are used to transport medicine. Kathy Giacomini is now being honoured for her highly ‘successful and forward-looking research within the area of membrane transporters, where she has combined studies from cell models to patients to better understand genetic variants and the need for special dosing of medicines in patients.’ Kathy Giacomini is world-leading in her field, and among other achievements, she is head of research for the International Transporter Consortium, which brings together leading researchers in this field from all over the world.
