Uppsala University ranked 93 by Times Higher Education

Three Swedish Universities are among the top 100 in Times Higher Educations ranking of the world’s best universities 2016–2017. Uppsala University has dropped from last year’s 81st place, but is still among the top 100 in 93rd place.
Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings 2016–2017 is based on 13 indicators in five categories, weighted as follows:
- Teaching (the learning environment) 30%
- Research (volume, income and reputation) 30%
- Citations (research influence) 30%
- International outlook (staff, students and research) 2.5%
- Industry income (knowledge transfer) 7.5%
This year’s ranking has for the first time included books and book chapters in the analysis of publications. A total of 70,000 books and close to 460,000 chapters have been analysed – most in the humanities and social sciences.
‘The addition of books ensures that the rankings, now in their 13th annual edition, go even further in capturing research excellence in the arts, humanities and social sciences’, says Times Higher Education Rankings Editor Phil Baty.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016–2017 include 980 universities in 79 countries across the world. This year, Oxford University tops the list ahead of the California Institute of Technology, Stanford, Cambridge, MIT and Harvard.
The following three Swedish universities are among the top 100 (last year’s ranking in brackets):
- Karolinska institutet: 28 (28)
- Uppsala University: 93 (81)
- Lund University: 96 (90)
Times Higher Education also ranks the best universities in a number of scientific fields. Those rankings will be published later this autumn.
