Three prominent Uppsala University researchers receive ERC Starting Grants

The European Research Council (ERC) has announced which researchers are being awarded Starting Grants for 2016. 325 research projects across the EU share a total of EUR 485 million. Three of these projects are led by researchers at Uppsala University.
The aim of the grants is to attract new research talents to Europe, to retain expertise within the union and create job opportunities for researchers.
Through the ERC Starting Grants, the EU attracts young research talent and keeps it in Europe. With the EU backing these grantees will be able to pursue their best ideas, but also create quality jobs for more research staff who wish to work on the frontiers of science. Ultimately they will contribute to creating the most valuable resource Europe has: human capital,” says Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation.
Researchers at Uppsala University who have been awarded Starting Grants 2016:
- Gustav Berggren at the Department of Chemistry (Ångström), Molecular Biomimetics, the photosynthesis group.
- Sebastian Deindl at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Molecular Systems Biology
- David Black-Schaffer at the Department of Information Technology, Division of Computer Systems
