Two ERC Consolidator Grants to Uppsala researchers
The European Research Council (ERC) has now published the results of the 2017 call for Consolidator Grants. Fourteen researchers at Swedish institutions have been awarded grants. Two of these are Uppsala researchers Daniel Brandell at the Department of Chemistry–Ångström and Giuliano Di Baldassare at the Department of Earth Sciences.
ERC Consolidator Grants are intended for researchers who have recently started a research team and want to strengthen their role as heads of research. Applicants must have the potential to become world leaders in their field.
A total of 329 top European researchers will share the 630 million euros that were awarded in the ERC Consolidator Grant 2017. The grant is part of the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
The most grants were awarded to researchers in the United Kingdom (60), Germany (56), France (38) and the Netherlands (25). Fourteen of the grants have been awarded to researchers at Swedish institutions. Two of these will go to Uppsala University.
Here are the two grants to Uppsala University:
- Daniel Brandell: FUNctionalized POLYmer electrolytes for energy STORagE
- Giuliano Di Baldassare: Uncovering the Mutual Shaping of Hydrological Extremes and Society
About the ERC
The European Research Council (ERC) was established in 2007 and is one of the first European funding organisations for excellent researchers in Europe. Each year, ERC selects and awards grants to the best and most creative researchers from around the world. ERC awards three types of grants: Starting Grants, Consolidator Grants and Advanced Grants. A fourth type of grant – Synergy Grants – was launched in 2017.
